Is there roll-off software without per-truck fees?

The short answer

Yes: some roll-off software charges one price per company instead of a price for each truck, driver or login. With a flat price, adding a truck or a driver doesn't raise the software bill. Ask any vendor exactly what the price is counted on, and what it will be when you add the next truck.

How software for haulers is usually priced

Software for roll-off companies is sold a few different ways: per truck, per driver, per office login, per dumpster, by the number of jobs, or one price for the company. Many vendors only give the price on a call. None of these is wrong on its own, but each one grows in a different way as your company grows.

Per-truck pricing looks small when you have two trucks. The trouble is that it goes up exactly when you're growing: the month you buy a truck is the month cash is tight, and the software bill goes up too.

Work out what you really pay today

Pull your last software bill and write down what it's counted on. Then work it out for the company you want to be in a year or two:

  • Your price per truck (or driver, or login), times the trucks you'll run.
  • Any add-on you pay for separately: the driver app, online booking, the customer portal, GPS, accounting links.
  • Setup, training and data moving fees.
  • Card payment fees, and whether the vendor takes a cut on top of the card company's.

Add it up for a year. That is the number to compare, not the price per truck on the first page of a quote.

What to ask before you sign

  • What is the price counted on, and what changes it?
  • Is every feature in that price, or are some sold as add-ons or a higher tier?
  • Is there a setup fee, or a fee to bring my data over?
  • When I take card payments, does the money go to my own account, and does the software take a cut?
  • Can I download all my data, any time, if I leave?
  • Can I try the real software before a sales call?

A flat price still has to be a fair price

A flat price only helps if it's a fair one for a company your size. Ask what the price is today and how often it has gone up. Ask what support you get: who answers when a driver can't finish a stop on a Saturday morning, and how fast. Ask how new features reach you, and whether they cost extra when they do.

How we price ours

American Dumpster Software is one flat monthly price per company: unlimited trucks, drivers, office logins, dumpsters and customers, with every feature included, and free setup and data moving. Card payments go through your own Stripe account, so the money goes straight to you. You can download every list as one spreadsheet at any time.

We built it that way because we run roll-off trucks ourselves, in Jacksonville, Florida, and paying more for every truck we added made no sense to us. See Pricing for what's included, or open the live demo and try it before you talk to anyone.

Questions

Is per-truck pricing always more expensive?

Not always. For a very small fleet a per-truck price can be lower. Work out the yearly cost at the size you expect to be in a year or two, with every add-on included, and compare that.

What does a flat price per company include?

It depends on the vendor, so ask. Ours includes every feature for unlimited trucks, drivers, office logins, dumpsters and customers, plus free setup and data moving. Card fees are between you and your own Stripe account.

Can I see the software before I talk to sales?

With ours, yes. The live demo is a whole sample roll-off company you can open as the owner, a dispatcher or a driver, with the password on the demo page.

See it in the software.

One flat price per company, never per truck. Try the whole thing before you talk to anyone.
